Learn the Basic Skills of Rifle Shooting

Are you a new firearm owner or new to rifle shooting?

Sometimes the biggest challenge can be as simple as getting started. This class is an introduction to basic rifle shooting, and helps set the groundwork for basic rifle mastery, making it the perfect first step in building your rifle training foundation. During this class, participants are encouraged to ask our professional, NRA certified instructors all of the Rifle related questions they would like. This class is suitable for all experience levels, but the goal is to teach the beginner rifle shooter the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude for safely owning and operating a rifle.

The Basics of Rifle Shooting course consist of two (2) sessions:

  • In classroom session we will discuss:
    • gun safety rules
    • types of rifle
    • proper operation of different rifles- Lever actionbolt actionsemi-automatic, etc
    • ammunition knowledge and selection
    • selecting and storing a rifle
    • the fundamentals of shooting
      • grip
      • stance
      • sight alignment & sight picture
      • breath control
      • trigger control
    • understanding firearm terminology
    • clearing stoppages
    • common rifle shooting errors
    • rifle inspection and maintenance.
  • During the firing range session you will:
    • demonstrate comprehension and application of gun safety techniques
    • practice range protocols
    • practice proper firearm handling
    • work on the rifle shooting fundamentals
      • grip
      • stance
      • sight alignment & sight picture
      • breath control
      • trigger control
    • practice loading and unloading procedures
    • try different stable shooting positions
    • practice live fire exercises
    • shoot a final qualification.

For the Basics of Rifle Shooting Class, we will provide:

  • Firearm
  • Ammunition
  • Ear Protection
  • Eye protection

We recommend that you:

  • Bring Sunscreen and bug spray
  • Water and snacks
  • Wear clothing suitable for Florida weather
  • Don’t wear low-cut shirts
  • Wear closed-toed shoes

The sizes of our Basics of Rifle Shooting classes are limited so that we can insure you receive individual and personalized instruction and guidance throughout the beginner rifle shooting class. At the end of your beginner rifle shooting class, you can schedule with your instructor to return to the classroom or range, if you wish to continue building your confidence and better your marksmanship skills.

The basic rifle training class is approximately hours long and the cost $110. This class can be separated into two consecutive 3 hour days

Our Classes are held at the Ascot Shooting Club in East Palatka, Florida. Preregistration is required.
