Manual Safety: (n)

A mechanism, most commonly a switch or lever, that must be manually activated and deactivated by the shooter. When activated, it is meant to prevent a firearm from firing if the trigger is pulled. Remember, as with all mechanical devices, the safety can fail. Therefore, following the safety rules for properly handling a firearm is of the utmost importance
